The Oversize Certificate is authorized for rolling steel doors for the protection of openings in fire walls, vertical shafts and exterior walls where the area exceeds 152 square ft., or for openings in the above locations when width or height exceeds 13’6”x12’. The maximum dimensions for doors for standard fire
protection provided with the Oversize Fire Door Certificate are not to exceed 56 ft. in width and 24 ft. in height.Doors are constructed to conform within requirements specified by Underwriter’s Laboratories. Inc. (U.L.). Doors are automatic and self-closing, Class (A) (B) (C) (D) or oversized certificate.
4 hour - Approved for doors with openings not exceeding 162 sq. ft. in area. Class (A) - 3 hour approved for doors in dividing fire walls with openings not exceeding 120 sq. ft. in area. Class (B) - 1.5 hour approved for doors, in vertical shaft openings not exceeding 120 sq. ft. in area. Class (C) - 0.75 hour approved for doors in a corridor or a room-partition opening not exceeding 120 sq. ft. in area. Class (D) - 1.5 hour approved for doors in an exterior wall opening not exceeding 120 sq. ft. in area.

APPLICATION AND USE
Smoke-Fire-Tite Flat Slat Doors as manufactured by Alpine are ideal for use in
School Cafeteria’s, Healthcare Facilities, Hospitals, Chemical Warehouses and
Airport Concession Displays.


GENERAL
Rolling Smoke-Fire-Tite Doors manufactured by Alpine are classified for a 4 hour rating and may also be installed in openings requiring a lower rating. They are Underwriter’s Laboratories, Inc., (U.L.), Classified. FM Approved for Fire Rating up to and including 3 hours. Opening preparation, miscellaneous or structural metal work, access doors, finish or field painting, field electrical wiring, wire, conduit, fuses and disconnect switches are in the Scope of Work of other divisons or trades.


CURTAIN
Flat Slats constructed of interlocking, roll-formed galvanized steel, G90 coating exterior, (G60 interior), Structural Quality Grade C, as per ASTM-653/A653-M) in 22 Gauge. Optional Gauges in 20 and 18. (Finish Options: baked enamel or powder coated.) Curtain equiped with a bottom bar which consists of two roll-formed galvanized steel angles measuring 2”x2”x1/8” and is designed to reinforce the bottom of the curtain. Bottom bar equiped with a vinyl, smoke seal astragal.


BRACKETS
Made from a steel plate 1/4” thick. Ball bearing at rotating support points. Bolted to the wall mounting angles with 1/2” fasteners. Plate supports the counterbalance assembly and forms an end enclosure.


HOOD HEXAGON (Square or Round OPTIONAL)
Constructed from #22 gauge galvanized steel and formed to fit the contour of the brackets. Intermediate supports are used as required in order to prevent excessive sag. Option: stainless steel. Hood equipped with a Lintel, 2” brush seal.


GUIDES
Guides are designed using structural steel angles with a minimum thickness of 3/16”, expansion slotted connections, and removable bellmount curtain stops to allow for curtain maintenance without removal of the guides. Bellmount stops shall be flush with the guide groove. Guides equipped with a 1 1/2” brush smoke gasket.


COUNTERBALANCED ASSEMBLY
Steel pipe barrel of a size capable of carrying a curtain load with a maximum deflection of 0.03” per ft. of door width. Heat treated helical torsion springs encased in a steel pipe and designed to include an overload factor of 25% to ensure minimum effort to operate. Sealed and prelubricated ball bearings are located at rotating support points. Torsion spring charge wheel is present for applying initial spring torque and for future adjustments. Option: stainless steel or hot dipped galvanized. Option: High Cycle Springs can be designed to satisfy from 10,000 through 400,000 life cycles.


OPERATION
Choice of push-up, hand chain, hand-crank, or motor operation. For optional features see the motor operators section in this catalog.

INSTALLATION
The opening preparation and the installation of the fire door shall be performed in strict compliance with NFPA-80.


LOCKING

Provide padlockable slide locks for latching and locking the door on the coil side of the bottom bar. Electric Interlocks recommended with motorized doors.


FINISHES (Optional)
Finish on steel to be shop coated primer, except galvanized surfaces. Stainless steel, mill finish #2B, #4 satin, polished or mill finish.


GALVANIZING
To be applied to the guides, brackets, pipe shafts and gears in addition to the standard specifications. Applied where conditions of extreme or unusual atmospheric contamination is present. In accordance with ASTM: A123.
